Week 4 FAAB
This week’s article is coming out a little later than normal, real-life things have gotten in the way this week which has put fantasy on the backburner a bit, as it should when you have real life stuff going on. I personally was in a pinch to get FAAB done this week, I ended up doing it at a roadside rest stop, and it turned out fine. It was a good reminder that for as much time as we all put into this silly hobby, sometimes it’s best to keep it simple and not deliberate incessantly over how much to tweak bids leading up to 10 PM on Sunday nights.
Week 4 was our most active FAAB week of the season in every regard. The most moves were made, the most money was spent, and the average cost per add was the highest we’ve seen thus far. Through 4 weeks of FAAB, the average team has spent $228, so if you have $770 dollars or more still left in FAAB, consider yourself ahead of the curve.
LEAGUE ACQUISITION SUMMARY
There was FAAB activity in all 53 Main Event leagues this past Sunday. League 1244 led the way with the most FAAB moves this week, with 44 transactions totaling $1,592 spent, at an average of $36 per addition. The most money spent came from League 1419 with $1,729 spent this week (37 additions, average of $47 per add). League 1673 had the highest average cost per acquisition at $53 per addition, with 28 additions totaling $1,492. The league with the fewest transactions was League 1521 with 26 additions ($1,117 total spend, average of $43 per add). The least money spent came from League 1427 with $837 spent this week (35 additions, average of $24 per add). The average spent per team was $87, up $17 dollars per add from last week. PLAYER ACQUISITION SUMMARY
Most Frequently Added
Nineteen players were added in 50% or more of Main Event leagues this week. This was a bit of a prospect FAAB-a-palooza, with Zach Neto, Edouard Julien and Taj Bradley all getting called up for their respective teams and commanding triple digits, or in the case of Julien, near triple digits.
Most FAAB Dollars Spent
Eleven players fetched over $1,000 in total Main Event FAAB bids this week, many of whom were already mentioned earlier in the most-added discussion. Johan Oviedo was one of the few exceptions. After being added in 13 leagues during Week 3 of FAAB, he was added in the last 25 leagues he was available in the Main Event this past week. As I am writing this, he came out of a Coors start unscathed, so he will likely be grabbed for substantial bids in any other leagues he is available (now 100% owned in the Main).
Highest Average Cost Acquisitions
Only ten players averaged triple digits this week on a per-addition basis. Once again, it consists primarily of players that were only available in a handful of leagues in the Main Event contest, in addition to the highly sought-after rookie call-ups in Bradley and Neto. I have to wonder if the managers who let Alex Lange and Kyle Finnegan hit their waiver wire will regret it. While their performance has been shaky, they still appear to have the closer role for their respective teams.
ADD OF THE WEEK
This week’s Add of the Week once again comes from League 1717, where Kyle Savage was able to optimize his bid for Taj Bradley, managing to bid just enough to win him by $1 over his competition. Some sharp bidders in League 1717 after Samuel Horton had the bid of the week last week on Drey Jameson.
DROP SUMMARY
Only 8 players were cut in more than 50% of leagues. Injuries were the driver behind the Bubic, Arcia, and Cruz cuts, while demotions to AAA sent Dodd and Irvin to the wire. While not as popular, some interesting cuts this week included Trevor Larnach (10 leagues), David Villar (8 leagues), Joey Votto (8 leagues), Clarke Schmidt (8 leagues), Leody Taveras (5 leagues), Joey Gallo (4 leagues), Gavin Stone (3 leagues), Braxton Garrett (2 leagues), Adam Ottavino (2 leagues), Victor Robles (2 leagues), Manuel Margot (2 leagues), Jose Alvarado (1 league), Jack Suwinski (1 league), Kerry Carpenter (1 league), Michael Soroka (1 league), Eduardo Rodriguez (1 league), Jose Siri (1 league), Jorge Polanco (1 league), Hayden Wesneski (1 league), Giancarlo Stanton (1 league), and Ketel Marte (1 league).
UNOPPOSED BIDDING
I continue to love reviewing the unopposed bid list. I have the advantage this week of seeing how the first half the week played out, and right now those that grabbed Connor Joe are coming out smelling like a rose. 3 games in Coors certainly helps, but through Thursday night he is 6-for-17 with 6 runs, 1 homer, 4 RBI and a walk. What a snag!
